Unicorn Pass is a trivalent chromate-based passivation chemical used to prevent white rust on galvanized materials.
At the end of the galvanizing process, newly galvanized parts have a bright appearance. After exposure to the atmosphere for several days, zinc reacts with the surrounding elements, leading to the formation of a gray appearance and sometimes a whitish kind of rust on the surface, gradually reducing the brightness of the galvanization. The final stage of the galvanization process, known as passivation, is an effective process that significantly slows down the chemical reaction of zinc with environmental substances and the formation of these white rust layers, which can be a reason of rejection of the coating by customer, if it is severe.
Advantages of Passivation
- Removes contaminations on the surface
- Extends the overall lifespan of the galvanized steel
- Creates a chemical film barrier that provides protection against white rust
- Reduces the need for ongoing maintenance and repairs
Make-up
Calculate the tank volume.
Fill the tank with water.
Add UNICORN PASS in an amount equal to 2.5-3% of the tank volume and mix thoroughly.
Apply using the spray, brush, or dipping method.
Technical Properties
Working Parameters
pH: 2-4
Specific Weight: 1.05 - 1.1
Temperature: Optimally 25 - 60 °C
Process Time: 1-2 minutes
Maintenance of the Solution
Additions should be adjusted based on the tonnage of galvanized steel. To maintain the ideal concentration, 80-120 mL of Unicorn Pass should be added to the passivation tank per ton of galvanized material. The consumption value may vary depending on the surface area and content of the galvanized material.
